I am a teacher at River Bluff High School's Center for Law and Global Policy Development, a program for juniors and seniors in Lexington County, SC, focused on leadership, law, politics, and foreign affairs. Since River Bluff’s opening in 2013, I've taught AP U.S. History, expanding the program from 3 to 8 sections. I've been a public high school history teacher in South Carolina for 30 years.
I hold a B.A. and MAT in History from the University of South Carolina and have won numerous awards, including the 2023 South Carolina History Teacher of the Year by the Gilder Lehrman Foundation. Through teaching, I work to share South Carolina’s historical landscape and encourage student-led historical interpretation. I believe history should be taught fully and fairly, fostering a “brave space” for critical thinking and civic engagement.
